Ask the Home Inspector: Quality Control Could Have Saved the Day

A client living in a strata complex reached out to us recently to voice concerns about the business of his Strata Corporation and a certain consulting company they were using. He shared several images of the finished work. The Strata Corporation hired this particular Consulting Company twice.

The client explained that this consulting company had produced two reports on the building and neither of them mentioned, documented or photographed the north elevation of the complex. This is important because these areas had severe rot, but it was completely left alone.

The complex then got special-levied based on the last report that was done. Instead of replacing all the rot, the areas were just simply painted over!

One thing is for sure – there was obviously NO supervision on this exterior work and it was a complete waste of money. If we had been hired to provide Quality Assurance before the contractor was paid, the outcome would have been very different!

Even if we had been asked to help this Strata administration for guidance on the subject (second opinion) and/or even provided our Problem-Solving service to turn this around, there would be no likelihood of this ending-up in court (litigation).

To avoid major catastrophes like the one above, always be sure to contact Glenn at Duxbury & Associates to inquire about quality-assurance services.
