WHY IS A NEW HOME FALLING APART?

Joy quickly turned to horror, when a brand new home started unravelling like a ball of wool before the buyer’s eyes!

One of our clients had been overjoyed after purchasing a one year old home from a local builder. They thought they had found an excellent deal and were very excited to move in!

However, what the buyer didn’t know was that this builder was a fly-by-night operation and was soon to be going out of business. This project had been the builder’s very first one and they had many headaches of their own, concluding they would quit building.

The buyer had assumed that this new home was high quality and extremely well built. However, within weeks of their purchase, they were appalled to discover that dozens of shingles were falling off, the chimney flashing was disintegrating and the laminate flooring was buckling very badly. When our team inspected this property, we found numerous construction errors, far worse than you would expect to find in a very old home.

Some people might think that City Inspectors would not pass such a property in their standard report and issue an Occupancy Permit. However, you might be surprised to know, the building code only factors in the minimum standards of safety. It does not account for the quality of the workmanship or the finishing. The responsibility falls upon the buyer to double-check the workmanship by hiring a Professional Home Inspector who only has their best interest in mind.
