BUYER BEWARE

5 Key Questions to Ask Every Home Inspector!

If your new home costs $750,000, but the un-discovered repairs end up costing you $50,000 – $100,000, it’s easy to see how hiring the wrong Home Inspector could be a complete waste. That’s why it’s so important to do your due diligence before hiring…

1) Do you have good references?
Always check references directly and check they were very pleased with the services and would recommend the home inspector to friends /family. Don’t rely on testimonials without verifying that the clients listed are real people.

2) How Long Have You Been in Business?
It takes a good while to become a really good Home Inspector and experience takes years to evolve. There are hundreds of very new Inspectors and not all are well-versed to do a good job for you, or will not go far enough.

3) What WON’T You be Checking?
Some Home Inspectors take the time to check everything and many will cut corners. If they cannot assure you and demonstrate all will be checked (including the roof, attic, crawl space & appliances, etc.) you’ll want to hire somebody else.

4) How Much Time will the Home Inspection Take?
A super quick inspection is an obvious trick, lazily glancing around and ticking boxes without taking the time to look closely at the details. Great home inspectors are like detectives tirelessly hunting for clues. (Less than 3-4 hour Inspection for a house, watch out!)

5) Can I Come Along on the Home Inspection?
Great home inspectors love to answer questions and take time to explain everything clearly, so their Clients leave with lots of knowledge and are fully satisfied. They care about what is important to you and they don’t barrage you with confusing jargon. If they don’t want you to be there on inspection day for as much as you want, it’s a red flag.
